A vibrant theatre community requires just the right chemistry. Source Festival plays alchemist by joining the forces of rising talents and established Washington artists to present more than 25 new works. Driven by creativity, collaboration and invention, the dynamic connections made here launch the careers of Washington’s next generation of theatre artists. Each of the Festival’s three weeks examines the creative process from a different perspective:
Week 1: June 12 – 20
SPARKS OF GENIUS: 18 Ten-Minute Plays
The city’s most promising new theatre artists come together with playwrights from around the country to create this veritable blitz of new work featuring 18 original 10-minute plays.
Week 2: June 21 – 28
THE CHEMISTRY OF ART: An Inside Look at four Extraordinary Collaborations
Experience innovation in action. Twelve diverse artists—playwrights, filmmakers, choreographers, musicians and visual artists—are teamed up on “artistic blind dates”. Five-months later, they reveal what they’ve created and engage the audience in a dialogue about their artistic process.
Week 3: June 28 – July 3
SYNTHESIS: Full-Scale Productions of three Fresh New Full-Length Plays
A team of Washington’s best and brightest directors and designers collaborate on an intense five-month developmental process that brings to life three new full-length plays. Experience the leading edge of American theatre.
